What is the Feng Shui Kua Number Calculator?
The Kua number comes from the Eight Mansions (Ba Zhai) school of Feng Shui. It links you to one of eight trigrams of the I Ching and, through them, to four directions said to support you and four said to drain you.
Kua numbers 1, 3, 4 and 9 form the East group; 2, 6, 7 and 8 form the West group. People in the same group are said to share supportive directions. There is no Kua 5: it becomes 2 for men and 8 for women.
In practice, people use their best directions for the way they face at a desk, the direction the top of the head points in bed, and the facing of a front door, when they have the choice.
How it works
We find the Feng Shui year: if you were born before Li Chun (the moment the Sun reaches 315°, about 4 February) we use the previous year. We add the digits of the year and reduce to one digit. Men: 11 minus that (reduced). Women: 4 plus that (reduced). These single formulas give the same results as the separate "before 2000" and "from 2000" rules.
A result of 5 becomes 2 for men and 8 for women. Directions come from the standard Eight Mansions table.
How it connects to your star sign
Feng Shui is not part of the Western zodiac, but both use elements. Your Kua number has an element (for example Kua 1 is Water), and the report notes the Western signs that share it, along with your sun sign.
