What is the Kundli Matching (36 Gunas)?
Ashtakoota ("eight aspects") matching is the classic North Indian method for comparing two charts before marriage. It compares the two Moons: their signs and their nakshatras. Each of eight kootas carries a weight from 1 to 8, adding up to 36 gunas (points).
Traditionally 18 or more points is considered acceptable, 24 or more good, and 32 or more excellent. Many families also check for Manglik dosha and specific doshas like Nadi and Bhakoot, which have well-known cancellation rules.
A score is not a verdict on a relationship. Many happy couples score low, and a high score does not replace communication, shared values and care.
How it works
For each person we compute the sidereal Moon (Lahiri). Varna, Vashya, Bhakoot and Graha Maitri come from the Moon signs; Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi come from the nakshatras. Each koota uses the standard published table, which the report shows with the reason for the points.
Some tables are not symmetric (Varna, Vashya, Gana), so the first person is read as the bride and the second as the groom, as tradition does. We also show the score with the roles reversed.
How it connects to your star sign
Four of the eight kootas depend directly on the two Moon signs (sidereal), so the report shows both Moon signs and how far apart they are, and compares them with your Western sun signs.
